About Me

My Story…

I consider it an honor to work with people in therapy.

While I talk with you, I enjoy discovering your unique style, your strengths, and even those things about you that you may not like.   Sometimes therapy is very fun and uplifting; other times it is difficult, sad, or frustrating.  Whatever your experience, I will remain present and supportive. What you’re going through matters to me.  You need not feel embarrassed about who or how you are when you speak with me. I will take you and your therapy seriously.

I began my career in Marriage and Family Therapy after I had my three children. After my youngest son was diagnosed with a chronic illness, I decided that I wanted to train to work alongside people as they work through life’s difficulties.  I have a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Central Connecticut State University. I specialize in Internal Family Systems  and and Intimacy from the Inside Out Couples Therapy. These models are so exciting and I am honored to use them as my clients experience tremendous growth and healing with them.

I truly believe in approaching life and therapy holistically. Wholeness and health are important, so I’ve earned my 200 hour YTT (Yoga Teacher Training) certificate. I also have completed 52 hours of Rhythm of Regulation Polyvagal training. And I’m an AAMFT Approved Supervisor.

I also have experience on working to unburden the effects of racism and bigotry from the inside out using IFS.

Experience, caring and competence are qualities I bring to your therapy. I do not see you as “broken” or “wrong,” but as a person, like me.  We all must jump hurdles throughout life and sometimes we run into walls.   In working with you, I will not just sit and nod my head.  I will listen to you and help you put the pieces together.  I have studied hard to offer you the information and skills in therapy that you deserve. Your therapy will be personally tailored to your needs, genuinely hopeful and authentic.

I am always learning, as life has much to teach.

My daughter started seeing Ingrid Helander when she was suffering from a chronic pain condition at age 10. We had been to many doctors and had gotten both good and bad advice on how to treat and deal with the situation. Ingrid helped us to cope with my daughter’s chronic pain — both the physical pain and the emotional consequences. Her condition is much improved, and I think she is better equipped to deal with the recurring episodes of pain using the strategies that she learned from Ingrid.
